The next meeting will take place at the Manchester Digital Laboratory, or Madlab[1], from 14:00 on the 20th February. Madlab is in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, roughly opposite Common, and easily accessible from Piccadilly Gardens, and Piccadilly and Victoria stations at:

No, there isn’t a meeting in December – Not of ManLUG anyway.
Following on from the normal ManLUG tradition, we won’t be holding a December meeting as the 3rd Saturday in December is too close to Christmas.
The dates for 2009 will soon be in the FAQ section, but note that these are only provisional at the moment and are based on our usual ’3rd Saturday of the Month’…

No one has volunteered to give a talk ( as yet…) so there will be an opportunity for general discussion and troubleshooting, etc.
InstallFest
We’ll try to have recent versions of as many Linux distributions as possible, certainly including Debian.
There will be some Ubuntu Linux, (We will have at least one CD for ‘Hardy Heron’ for i386)
Please come and help, or bring your machine along. Note: Please, please back up your machine before you bring it, unless you are absolutely willing to risk losing everything on it!
When you arrive at the porters lodge, you will be required to sign-in and list all pieces of equipment that you are bringing in to the InstallFest, otherwise you will not be allowed to take it out of the building at the end
Waking up to an Open World
The nature of the talk will outline the hurdles in place which prevent the wholesale adoption of free and open software and how they will be removed.
John Adams is Managing Director of Mintra Limited an independant Systems integrator which supports mixed Open and Closed systems. John is an active member of Axiom Technology which is an Open Source Specialist, John is also Liason officer for the open source consortium.
At the last minute, Mark Johnson volunteered to give a talk on ‘Linux EPOS’ and how he manages it at Matalan.
The talk went down rather well, and I hope to have a copy of the slides online soon – hint!
